Why This Must Be Read: Jack and Daniel's friendship showed some strain in seasons four and five, perhaps most notably in "Scorched Earth." Let's face it: they got lucky there. In "Perfidy," their luck runs out. While Jack waits none too patiently for Daniel to emerge from a coma, he remembers the mistakes that led them here. Sam, Teal'c, Janet, and even Ferretti offer their support, and sometimes regrets, each in his or her own distinctive voice. Sunrise gives us comfort with the hurt but avoids sentimentality.
"I know I screwed up, but the least you could do is give me another chance. You sure as hell cut everyone else in the universe plenty of slack. You were more than willing to extend the hand of friendship to that overgrown sardine, even after he'd practically fried your brain. And how about when that Unas dragged you off to become the main course at a banquet in his honor? I lead an S&R team halfway across the planet, and all you can say is 'We communicated. We're friends'!"
Jack sighed, lifting a leaden arm to rub his eyes before turning back toward the bed.
