Why This Must Be Read: "Adrift" opens with a protagonist who cannot remember who he is, what ties him to the blond woman or the unconscious man also receiving medical treatment—or how he came to be in an unfamiliar medical bay, being treated by people with fur. He is, however, certain he's not from around here. As the story progresses, some pieces fall into place faster than others: how they came to be on an alien ship proves one of the more elusive memories, and whether the team can really trust these aliens remains to be seen. JoaG delivers plenty of friendship and team moments (with the original SG-1 team) as well as mystery and adventure.
Damn, he had no idea of his own name. Or where he was. He shook his head. "I don't remember my name." His headache suddenly escalated with his discovery, and he tensed to hold the panic at bay.
"Neither do I," the woman added.
"Please, do not be alarmed, it is a normal side effect of one of our medical procedures. Your memories will return completely in a short time. We found your ship adrift in space. It had been damaged, and life support had failed. When we found you, all of your body functions had ceased. A short while longer and my medical facilities would have been unable to revive you."
