Why This Must Be Read: I love stories that have an episodic feel to them. This marvelous fic, written for the [livejournal.com profile] sg1teamficathon, has everything: drama, adventure, humor, characterization, and four individuals coming together to fuse into that wonderful entity known as SG-1.

In one of the first missions of S1, the team finds themselves in crisis. They will have to trust one another - not only in skills and competence, but also in loyalty - in order to make it back to the Stargate in safety. Random offers us some fascinating challenges, an actual solution to a major contradiction between show canon and movie canon, and excellent shifting POVs throughout the story. Most importantly, though, Rites and Passage is a great team fic that will have you reading at a gulp, cheering on Jack, Daniel, Sam, and Teal’c as they find their way to success.

Full (and smug) disclaimer: Yep, I got to beta this! Lucky me. :)

He wasn't getting the vibe off his team that he had a team.

He had three people. One with a noble quest, one with what looked like some not very noble scores to settle, and one who had an attitude about proving herself. That made it too likely that one of these days, these three would split into different directions unless Jack had them tied heart and soul to each other.

They had a few ties already from Chulak--but Jack wanted more, and he wanted deeper. He needed them to know they could lean on him or each other for anything, and he didn't know how to get to that point with milk runs. So maybe some ruins would help--they'd at least give Daniel a distraction from that undercurrent of misery dragging at him, and they had a full three days for poking around so Carter would have time for measuring things. Teal'c would just have to be the one to settle for not getting anything to shoot. But, hey, there was always target practice, right?

Oh! I just nipped over there and read it. Dark, scary Jack. This is where Jack would fall if not for Daniel making him into a better man. Thanks for the tip, that was beautifully creepy.
