IT'S STILL NOVEMBER HERE.

Title: The Fourth Kingdom
Category: Apocafic
Pairing: Daniel/Jack (according to my bookmark)
Warnings: Um, apocafic?
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] synecdochic
Author's Website Venus in Furs
Link: The Fourth Kingdom
Summary: What happens when the battle against Anubis goes a little worse than it should have, and the Stargate program gets dragged public, and nobody dares speak the word 'theocracy' anywhere anyone might overhear.

I dunno. Maybe it's the fact that this is just simply an amazing fic. It makes it feel real, the reveal, the way SG-1 deals, the way the world deals. What they do. And it doesn't matter if it's marked as slash in my bookmark - for one thing, my bookmark could be wrong. But even more, on re-read, it's so tiny so in-passing that if you have well-callibrated gen-glasses, it should read fine.

[Partial transcript. CNN News roundtable discussion, "The Hidden War". Broadcast date: 8/24/04. Studio guests: President Robert Kinsey, Dr. Daniel Jackson.]

[Timecode: 01:21:47]

KINSEY: And let's talk about you, Dr. Jackson --

JACKSON: Oh, please, let's not.

KINSEY: You were the one who opened the Stargate, were you not? The one who called Earth to the attention of the Goa'uld. The one who repeatedly, recklessly, dragged us into a war you knew we had no chance of winning --

JACKSON: A war they brought to us. A war humanity has been fighting since long before you or I walked this Earth. The SGC prepared Earth, held the frontlines for seven years, fought back and won --

KINSEY: I hardly call millions of casualties 'winning'.

JACKSON: [unintelligible]

KINSEY: What was that, Doctor?

JACKSON: I said, 'they died free'.

I had read this one before and it was certainly worthy of the rec. Some might call it a cynical look at the aftermath but, given Kinsey's holier-than-thou attitude, it is depressingly believable.
