Why This Must Be Read: This is one of my favorite short Atlantis stories, period. It's beautifully constructed, with all the fat trimmed away and every detail carefully in place to build to the big "reveal"; I remember that the first time I read it, I had to go back and re-read it a couple of times immediately, seeing the events of the story in a whole different light now that I knew what was going on. Excellent character voices and nicely understated friendship and h/c are just the chocolate frosting on a delicious little fanfic cupcake.
