Why This Must Be Read: I love a story that has some good universe building to it, and spins off of how I see the characters in canon. In this story, John is a gladiator and slave, while Rodney is the outspoken Roman senator who falls for him. Most of the story takes place in John's prison cell, but there is panoramic world of political intrigue and conquest that surrounds them. Tension builds steadily, both in their relationship and in the ramifications of their actions.
