For my last rec this month, let's go back to the very beginning: the beginning of SG-1.

Rec Category: Gen
Pairing: none. characters: Jack O'Neill, Samantha Carter, Daniel Jackson, Teal'c, Janet Fraiser, George Hammond
Category: SG-1, First Season, team-fic, Jack-centric
Warning: some disgusting imagery, graphic vomiting (a personal squick of mine)
Author on LJ: unknown
Author's Website: unknown
Link: The Midas Syndrome (the story is in parts. each new part is linked at the bottom of the previous page.)
Why This Must Be Read: I couldn't believe I didn't find this already recced along with the other genrecs. This was one of the stories that sucked me in to SG-1 fandom as a reader. It's a story about SG-1 at the very beginning of their adventures, in their first month together, just learning to become a team. Jack has invited his proto-team to dinner to "bond" and sees his mistake…

We had, I realized suddenly, absolutely nothing to talk about outside of work. We were a soldier, a scientist, an archaeologist and a Jaffa (and SGC hadn't even come to a definite conclusion on how to spell that last one yet). We had completely different life experiences. We were variously divorced, single, separated (pending a swift reunion, hopefully) and God-knew-what. One of us had been on another planet for the past twelve months, and one of us wasn't even human, under the strictest definition of the term. What the hell were we going to talk about for the next four hours, if not work? Whose dumb idea had this been anyway?

Oh yeah. Mine.

The team runs into hard evidence that the Goa'uld aren't the only danger out there in the galaxy, and--with Jack O'Neill's life on the line--they pull together to save the day, showing all the elements of the famous, world-saving team they'll someday be.

Rheanna has a lovely O'Neill voice, and she draws all the other early Season one SG-1 characters, as well as Dr. Fraiser and General Hammond, with a caring and loving eye and a wonderful ear for their voices.

Go! Read! You'll definitely enjoy!

I love when writers go in directions I would never think of. The not being able to touch anything was a stroke of genius. Very well written and I so enjoy the early team stories.
