Why This Must Be Read: I cannot believe that this story has not been rec’ced yet! I suppose it could actually be considered Jack/Daniel/Jack friendship. Because, well, two Jacks are better than one. Set not too terribly long after the season 7 episode “Fragile Balance”, Building Foundations takes a peek into the lives of “Jon”, Daniel, and Jack. Most of the story focuses on Jon and Daniel as they help each other work through post-Fragile Balance and Vis Uban issues. But the story begins and ends with Jack, Daniel, and their awkward attempts to redefine their friendship after all that has happened, in true Jack and Daniel fashion. Moonshayde easily handles the characterization of the... 2.5 different characters, and allows them to have their own unique moments of bonding. This fic is a must-read.

"Well, uh…" His voice trails off and he looks like he's having trouble finding the right words. A linguist. Geez.
"I just came by to say hi," he replies at last, forcing a weak smile. "So, hi, Jack."
I exhale and shake my head. "Jon," I say rather flatly. "Everyone keeps calling me Jon."
"Oh." I can tell this bothers him. "Is that what you want to be called?"
Something tells me he is being a little more than polite here. You wear your emotions on your sleeve, Daniel.
"No," I answer. Like it really matters anyway.
"Alright then, Jack, let's get in the car," he says so abruptly and authoritatively I nearly fall over.
I snort. "I take it you never learned that little rule about not accepting rides from strange men?"
He glares at me, but I know him better than that. With a jerk, he's already opened the door and behind the wheel. I have no idea why I even decide to follow.
