Why This Must Be Read: When Daniel realizes the purpose of the artifact they brought back from P2K-101, the implications – and temptations – are too frightening to consider. Does he dare use it himself? Does Jack?
What-might-have-beens and their inevitable consequences spool out in this intense drama, as Jack and Daniel are forced to weigh their personal happiness against Earth’s future. And in the end, Time in the Superman Booth teaches Jack and Daniel that while there are no real happy endings, the story they’re living, in their timeline and reality, is satisfaction enough for them both.
With a shrug, Jack muttered, "We can't change anything."
"We have to return this," Daniel studied his friend's sorrow.
"We will."
"We can't tell them what it is."
"Hammond has to know or he won't send it back."
"He'll do the right thing." At least they had a commander they could trust.
"You know, I guess we were destined to work together." Jack eyed Daniel, squinting in thought. "You and me." Not such a bad deal.
"To save the world?" Daniel queried quietly. Or to keep each other company in foolish endeavors?
"Sure. Clark Kent and Jimmy Olsen."
"Which of us is Clark?"
"That would be me."
"I've got the glasses."
"I'm in the phone booth."
