I haven't done one of these in months. Recently, I had to go through all the recs for this year and I found a few things I wanted to bring up. Rec'cers especially need to read. If you've rec'ced in the past, you may want to read through as well. Nothing bad! And I'm not pointing fingers at any ONE person. I'm not a finger-pointer anyway!
1. Coding In The Subject Line
When you add coding into the subject line, for instance an LJ username, it really makes the entries in Memories look messy. The html doesn't carry over. You get exactly what you enter. For example, < lj user = " angelsgracie " > will look like that in the entry, just without the spaces. If you want to use an LJ username, just type the name without the code.
2. Rec Category Line
If you are rec'cing for Character: Other, Slash: Other, Het: Other, Genre: Other, or Friendship: Other, it is not necessary to enter this into the Rec Category: line of your entry. They are put in memories by the character, pairing, or genre. So for example, if you are rec'cing Jacob Carter, it would look like this...
Rec Category: Jacob Carter
3. End Of The Month Rec'cing
I have noticed an improvement in this. I am very glad to see it. Some people are making a habit of waiting, though, on a regular basis. PLEASE spread it out. Of all people, I do realize that RL gets in the way, and once in a while is fine. But please make an effort not to make it a habit.
4. Posting Access Entries By [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com]
I do fully realize that it isn't up to the rec'cers to make sure that all their fics are tagged and put into memories. I have asked [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com] to request in her entries that rec'cers let her know if something is missed. The volunteers work hard to make sure that everything is tagged and put into memories, but entries do get missed. It's never on purpose. We ask so that you can help us. If something is missed, PLEASE let her know in that entry. That's her job to ask. It is the responsibility of the volunteers to watch that post and take care of the entries as needed.
Also, she will put up the usernames of people who need to join the comm as a member so they can post. Once you join, please leave a comment so she can grant you access. If you don't have access and you should, leave a comment there as well. Since she does posting access, that's the best way to contact her and let her know you're ready to post.
5. New Categories
There was a bit of confusion over where to put the new categories in memories. I do believe we have that all fixed now. (I hope!) If you rec'ced for Femslash, Teyla/Sora, Sam/Vala, Elizabeth/Teyla, and Friendship: Other (Daniel and Teal'c, I think, and Sam and Daniel, maybe others) if you want to take a look and make sure they're put in memories now, please do so. If they aren't there, leave a comment here, please!
I believe that's all I had, just those 5 things. Otherwise, I have to say that this comm has been doing fantastic lately. We're up over 1000 people watching, over 600 members. We have the new banners (thank you to [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com]), which anyone is welcome to use. I'm very thankful for [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com] and all the volunteers who picked up the slack while I was gone. Great job, Mods, Volunteers, and Rec'cers!!!!!!
