Why This Must Be Read: I'm reccing this story because of the potential that it shows as a first story. There are some strong moments and the author is quite good at evoking a sense of melancholy or happy fluffiness by turns. And let's be honest, I'm also a big fan of Lizzy, so a story like this that focuses on her as a real character is good to find.
Basically, it's a wish fulfillment story, though I do like how it takes into account the "reality" of the situation as given by TPTB. There are parts where the characters may not be quite "in character" but I think that it can be forgiven for the quiet moments that we get as a result. *grin*
The warm breeze ruffled Elizabeth Weir's hair, making it tickle her neck and sending shivers down her spine as she stood for what could be the last time on her favorite balcony. She closed her eyes, taking in the experience, committing it to memory, breathing deeply, trying to calm her nerves.
A light nudge of her right shoulder brought her out of the moment, startling her a little until she realized, even before looking, that John Sheppard had found her, as he always did. He leaned on the rail next to her, staring directly ahead of him. Looking at nothing in particular.
"Couldn't sleep?" she asked.
"Well, you know," he replied, trying his best to keep the mood light "It's not every day your best friend moves to another galaxy."
Elizabeth shot a startled look at him "Best friend?"
"Yeah.." he said softly, still staring out into the darkness.
