Why This Must Be Read: In this tight and well written story, Jack and Daniel are captured by what Jack describes as lizards on steroids. The story is written from Jack’s POV and deals with the stress, emotional trauma of watching one that you love suffer from deprivation. The aliens give Jack a jail room with a bed, facilities, food, etc. Daniel has none of these things. If he tries to sleep, he is given an electrical shock. He is sprayed with cold water, the room is chilled, heated, brightened. He can’t even get close to the window where Jack watches all that occurs to him because he is hit with a shock if he does. The desperation of the lovers is handled well by the author, but what is even more touching is the way the author gives strength to the characters. These are not two characters bemoaning their states or being melodramatic. These are two characters deeply in love. Jack offers Daniel an escape which is beautiful and slightly bittersweet as he watches his love failing under the stress of their imprisonment. It is a great little drama. Highly recommend it!
