Why This Must Be Read:
This absolutely brilliant fic is a part of a series set in the Moebius AU timeline - Strange Harbors (Which you should all go and read due to the awesome!)
This is Daniel, making connections between theories of particle physics and the myriad possibilities of the future selves of SG1, while sitting in the sand of Ancient Egypt. It's an excellent fic, thought provoking and with an ending line that will break your heart.
A Teeny Extract"
Sam used to tell them, over and over, that they can't interfere in the world around them--they can't possibly foresee the consequences of their actions, and the risks of affecting the future are too great. The way Daniel adds it up, that's no more true in Egypt of 3000 BCE than it is in the Colorado of 2005, but at the time it wasn't his call, and now he's back where he started: traveling into the future one minute at a time, just like everybody else. But (and it was Jack, of all people, who brought this up) physics isn't supposed to need people. We imagine decisions and circumstances to ignite alternate realities, but that's a metaphor to soften the unapproachable. Quantum mechanics goes on without us.
