Why This Must Be Read: Brand NEW! This is an answer to a challenge at Ancient Obsessions. The challenge was to write the ending of Stargate as you would essentially like to see it. Please refer to Ancient Obsession’s Challenges for full details. Cynic has answered this with a Daniel centric fic. In order to defeat the Ori, Daniel had to give up a part of himself. It seems fairly self evident, at first, that the physical trauma of the evident has destroyed a part of who Daniel is. As the story unfolds though, we learn that this story is ripe with symbolism. This symbolism shows us how Daniel has given up all that he loved for the fate of Earth and the galaxy. There’s a bit of adventure and mystery thrown in and our favorite Asgard makes an appearance. Jack is a strong character in the story, but this is really a story about Daniel. It demonstrates everything that Daniel has given up for the Stargate program and how little he has received in return for his sacrifice. His team mates, especially Jack, come to realize this and need to go to his side in the end. The end will leave you with a raised eyebrow – hmm Daniel did it again, as well as a sigh of – hmm Daniel did it again. Enjoy!
As a small aside – I have to admit I did beta this story for Cynic but I did very little to help her along with the guts of it. I think I dotted some I’s and crossed some t’s!
