Admin: March
Mar. 3rd, 2007 12:29 amOkay, before I ramble at you? I have a message from our dear great owner type person:
angelsgracie
"While medie will be taking care of the majority of the beginning of the month post, I wanted to let everyone know that I'm not necessarily back, but I am stepping up to help her some with the changes for the beginning of March. It's a lot of work for her, and she's been doing both my 'job' and her own. She's been doing a great job. I'm very thankful to have her stepping in while I'm dealing with some personal issues. Also, I do want to focus on rec'cing too. I am back, but in a very limited capacity. It's great to see so many volunteers. You guys are amazing!"
and now
medie rambles at you!
We have a lot of newbies (and omg, you rule for braving this!) so I'm going to go over a few basics.
We do have a FAQ so if you have questions check there first BUT I am available to be asked. Just email me via my livejournal email, that gets routed to the address I check the most frequently. I may not get back to you right away but I will try to get back to you. If I don't? Someone will. :)
The biggest thing when you post a rec? This is the format you use:
Subject: Title by Author's Name (Rating)
Rec Category: ie: Character Name, Genre Type, Pairing Names
Pairing: (no abbreviations please)
Category: ie: H/C, Daniel, Atlantis, etc
Warning: ie: Het, Slash, Character Death (This is a must!)
Author on LJ:

Why This Must Be Read:
This is what it should look like (using one of my own fics as example)
Post Subject: unwind by Medie (NC-17)
Rec Category: Sam/Teal'c
Pairing: Sam/Teal'c
Category: PWP, Missing Scene
Warning: Het
Author on LJ:

Why This Must Be Read:
Blah, blah, Sam, blah, blah, porny bits, blah blah Teal'c, blah blah, did I mention the porn?
And that? is that. You really don't have to write a big long rec about how awesome the fic is. Go with how it feels to you. And yes, it's good to use the html codes for the posts, makes it easier to read.
Other things:

Other things:
- PLEASE do not wait until the end of the month to finish up your recs. There are situations where it's unavoidable (illness, being offline that sort of thing) but some people do it month to month and believe me, it's not a huge deal but it can be aggravating when the taggers are trying to catch up and such. Just, play nice and spread them out a bit okay? It's one thing if it's one or two people, but imagine if it's more than that? Can get messy *G*
- PLEASE, in the rec format? List the pairing. If there's a pairing in the story? LIST IT It's just easier that way for all concerned and put it in the pairing line of the format. It's there for a reason
- I say this over and over again but, please, you don't have to wait until the end of the month to volunteer for categories. I like being able to say we're set for a few months ahead on a category, it's so much easier on my nerves. Don't worry about whether or not the month that you come up will be one you can't rec in. Believe me, if RL is in the way, I'll just skip over you that month and come back to you at a later date when you're available. Seriously, whenever it occurs to you? Just go over to Volunteer and put your name down on the category that appeals to you. That way I don't have to come begging EVERY month because yes, I can't imagine that's fun for you guys.
- Spoilers. We've had this go round with people before and if there is something that needs to be warned for/noted for and you think it will spoil the story? TOUGH. Put it in anyway. You do not, however, HAVE to put it in the rec info. You can do a 'caveat lector' (reader beware) and put the information at the bottom of the rec post (throw in some enters to give it spoiler space) under a seperate LJ cut. I doubt this will be a problem but if it's come up once, it could again and it's easier to have the explanation already out there
