Rec Category: Rodney McKay
Pairing: McKay/Sheppard implied (could be read as gen)
Category: Gen
Warning: 'offscreen' character death
Author on LJ:
synecdochic
Author's Website: Venus in Furs
Link: and the band's playing "hail to the chief"
Why This Must Be Read: The first thing you've got to know is that this story is a coda to the famous Freedom's Just Another Word for Nothing Left to Lose. And if you haven't read that one already, do so now. You are missing out on a beautiful, painful, rewarding story that will take more than a few hours to get through. The coda, though lacking much of the length, has many of the same qualities. It takes place more than ten years after the first story ends, following Rodney as one of his old students comes into danger from the SGC. And despite the already-resounding conclusion from Freedom, the coda offers a greater sense of finality. So, if you haven't found this yet, please, read it.
