Why This Must Be Read: A "five things" fic that sounds from the title as though it would be fluffy and frivolous, but which actually is poignant, insightful, and warm. Working through a series of five Earth board games, the story explores Teal'c's emotional baggage from his life as a Jaffa and as Apophis' First Prime, as well as his connections to the Tau'ri. Through Teal'c's experiences with games, we see his growth from an outsider very aware of being in alien surroundings to a man comfortable and sure of his place among friends. Spanning his entire ten years with the SGC, paian's story gives us glimpses of his interactions with both O'Neill's and Mitchell's SG-1. Expect to be surprised by which games Teal'c does not enjoy. Oh, and any fanfic author who can sell a deep meaning behind Chutes and Ladders really has to be sampled.
