Why This Must Be Read: I love fics that show a outsider's view of the characters we know. We know John is willing to do just about anything to get his people home in one piece. This story is told from the point of view of a woman he has taken hostage when a mission has gone very bad. John's darker side - the side that is trained and willing to kill without hesitation - is not glossed over. This is very much the man who closed the shield on a company of Genii soldiers to protect Atlantis. And while we can understand where John may be coming from, this story is a good view into what an angry, pushed-to-the-limit John Sheppard looks like to the other side.
