Why This Must Be Read: Rocketchick writes amazing Sam/Janet fanfic. That's just a given. This one surpasses her usual standards for fic. Set shortly after "Rite of Passage," we see how the strain of suppressed love affects Sam and Janet's friendship, and when they finally give in, the fierce emotional release is all the more tangible because, due to their military status, it has to be kept secret. Rocketchick also deals with the attraction between Janet and Daniel, and why nothing ever came of it, and she also manages to work in some very good moments with Jack, Teal'c, and General Hammond. (General Hammond does not get enough love in fic. Seriously.) The best part of this fic is how Sam and Janet deal with the family they've made together with Cassandra. I don't know if she intended it, but lurking in the back of my mind the entire time I was reading this story was the fact of the Heroes episodes. It makes Sam and Janet's time together even more poignant.
