Why This Must Be Read: The marines call him silent; the scientists call him shy if they like him, devolved if they don't. He really doesn't think he's any of these things, he just doesn't remember how to deal with other people.
I selected my previous recs because they provided valuable insight into the thoughts and motivation of Teyla. This lovely story is all about Ronon. It was written pre-Sateda, but the author is spot-on in her depiction of the inner workings of Ronon's brain. Surcease is beautifully written and gives us the opportunity to watch Ronon's internal struggles to adjust to his new life on Atlantis.
This is a very believable Ronon, and very human. I especially love how Ronon manages to insert a stray "Teyla is hot" in the middle of all of his ponderings.
A truer thought has rarely been thunk.
