Nothing But Sky
Why This Must Be Read: There were many responses to "Common Ground" in the form of fanfiction, but many seemed to have been in the form of some sort of 'Ship, be that Sparky, or John/Teyla, or even John/Rodney. This fic is one of the few that focuses on John himself and how he begins to deal with his experiences. Sure, the 'Ship is there if you want to put on your Shipper glasses, but really, this story is all about John and how he deals with everything that happened to him, and how he's been changed by the events of the day. And of course, the writing is well done and it is a very enjoyable read. *grin*
In truth, he can’t shake the sense that this is all happening to someone other than him. Everything had happened so fast, and he had come so close to death that he’d accepted its imminence, waited for it even. And now… it feels strange to be alive. Feels somehow wrong.
He's doing his best to keep it together, to stay still and appear his usual in control self, but Ronon and Teyla keep watching him with identical worried expressions. John thinks he should at least try to offer them some reassurances, but his mind keeps wandering away from him, back to wherever it went while he was lying there waiting to die. He can’t stop trembling, his heart pumps too quickly, which makes him want to breathe too fast. It is as though his body hasn’t yet realized that his ordeal is over. And it is over. He tells himself this. He says the words. Quietly. Inside his own mind. And tries to believe it.

Date: 2006-10-08 05:16 am (UTC)I did want to ask you though... When you do your Rec Category for your entries, it should be 'John Sheppard' and not 'Character'. That way the volunteers who put it into memories know which category to put it in.
So it should look like this...
