Really quick note: I know that Sheppard/Teyla is far from the most popular het pairing in the fandom. That being said, there is some really great work out there that deserves to be read, not immediately shunted off into the "no-go" pile based on the characters involved. For my recs I'm going to be including both friendship and ship pieces, clearly labelling which is which; if you like their interaction, but not in a romantic sense, there will be recs for you. I'm a big fan of those kind of stories myself, so please give 'em a try! :)

Rec Category: Sheppard/Teyla friendship
Pairing: Sheppard/Teyla friendship
Category: Friendship, hurt/comfort, angst
Warning: Gen, but no romantic relationship; character whump; intense emotion -- NO violence, sex, or language

Why This Must Be Read: If you ever read one fic about these two characters, if you've ever trusted anyone to give you a good, solid character piece in any fandom, please, please, please read this story. This is one of the best fics that I have ever, ever read for this or any fandom. The author has done the characters so proud -- they are so recognizable even while dealing with some horrendous circumstances.

This fic primarily deals with Teyla undergoing some drastic changes and the strength of the friendship and bond between her and John Sheppard when everyone else seems to have abandoned her. There's a good deal of emotional stuff in this one but no graphic violence, sex, or language; it's simply not needed to make this an frightening, heart-wrenching, and amazing read. It's a beautifully written piece, and I can't say enough good things about it. This is a character piece, pure and simple, and it's one that you can't afford to pass up.

Characterization down pat. Incredibly vivid, seamless writing. Emotional and powerful story and imagery -- yes, I cried a bit. Check it out!

Sheppard/Teyla is the most popular het pairing? Wow, that's news to me! *g* I guess a lot has changed in the year I've been out of SGA fandom.

Warning: Het, but no romantic relationship; character whump; intense emotion -- NO violence, sex, or language

Hope you don't mind me pointing this out. If a story focuses on a romantic/sexual relationship between a male and a female, then it's labelled "het". If it's just a platonic relationship, it's labelled "gen". (And of course a romantic/sexual relationship between same-sex characters, then it's "slash".)

If you've already indicated the story is "friendship" aka "gen", then why call it "het"?

Also, you have Subject: "Kryptonite in the Palm of her Hands" by [livejournal.com profile] mhalachaiswords in the body of your post. Actually, what you're supposed to do is put the story's title and author (plus rating) in the subject line of your post.

Hope this helps!

Hello! I'm your tagger this month. :) I noticed while tagging your rec that the subject line is in the body of the post rather than up in the subject line of the entry. When you have a second, would you please move it to the subject field? That should make it easier for the person who places your entries into memories. Thank you!

(Welcome to rec'ing. I'm looking forward to reading fic that someone feels passionately about recommending! Oh - one more thing: I love your LJ name. Picard is YUM!)

We're all noobs at something, no? There will always be something, somewhere at which we're noobs. I welcome it since the only way to avoid being a noob is to never learn or do anything new. *shudder* In any case, this is a fairly painless thing and becoming an "old hand" is no biggie. I'm always thrilled to see new people rec'ing fic. More rec'ers = more variety. Welcome!

Patrick Stewart is wonderfully sexy. Anyone who thinks that's weird, well, they're noobs of an entirely different sort.

I must admit I don't read much John/Teyla fic (and when I do it's only friendship stuff) but it's got nothing to do with the characters involved. I love John and I love Teyla, just not romantically involved. I'm a pretty hard-core slash/McShep reader and honestly, het doesn't ever appeal to me. But gen/friendship stories -- I'm all for them!

Thanks for this rec, and I very much look forward to more of these from you. :)

Thanks so much for this beautiful rec! You totally made my day yesterday when I saw this wonderful write-up. And yay to your choice to include friendship fics in with the pairings :D
