[identity profile] angelsgracie.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] stargateficrec
First off, I have to say a big thank you to everyone who puts so much time and effort into this comm. Looking at everything that we do now, it's hard for me to remember how I ever managed to do all of it by myself. Fact is, I didn't. I put recs into memories and I did the big post, that was about it. Now we have volunteers who put recs into memories, we have the recs tagged, we have someone checking old links to see if they still work, we have someone who assigns rec'cers every month, and we have someone who takes care of posting access and catching up on missed tags and memories.

So what do I do now? *g*

I read every comment that comes into the comm. I love getting a chance to sort of 'meet' everyone through their comments to the recs. I do a lot of troubleshooting and answer any number of questions (which is my favorite thing to do!). I get to see how close we come during the month to having every category, that has a rec'cer, reach its goal of recs. In September, we had 30 categories that had volunteers. Of those 30, we had 24 that had 2+ recs. I'm pleased with that. Would I like that to be better? Yep! Because that meant that there were 6 categories that had a rec'cer but only received 1 or 0 recs. Overall, I counted 130+ recs for September. I'm just... that's a great number! I am very excited about that!

Now, there are a couple of things I'd like to touch upon.

Monthly Recs Quota-- We did MUCH better with it in September, we had the last two days pretty packed instead of just the last one. We don't have a minimum on how many recs are put up a week or anything like that. We want four a month but don't say when you have to rec them. I really would like for people not to wait until the end of the month to put up all four of their recs at the end of the month. Yeah, I know RL can suck and it can be a real shocker to realize the end of the month is just around the corner... My advise, if RL sneaks up on you a lot, is not to hold off. Try not to procrastinate. Set a goal to have two by then middle of the month and two by the end of the month and that should help.

Rec Format-- I've seen a few deviations in this, and I hate to be nitpicky but please leave the rec format the same for every rec. I always copy and paste it, adding the HTML to bold it. We do have a few new rec'cers (YAY!), so here's the format again...

Subject: Title by Author's Name (Rating)

Rec Category: ie: Character Name, Genre Type, Pairing Names
Pairing: (no abbreviations please)
Category: ie: H/C, Daniel, Atlantis, etc
Warning: ie: Het, Slash, Character Death (This is a must!)

Why This Must Be Read:

Reminder: The Rec Category should be the very first line of your rec. The one exception is if you'd like to intro yourself in your very first rec of the month. Otherwise, this should be the first line.

Volunteering to Rec-- I would like to mention that there is an actual line to rec Jack/Daniel and John/Rodney. There are lines for a few other categories too. This is actually what we want to see. We really prefer it to people waiting until the last minute to rec, waiting to see if that category is open for the month before volunteering to rec it. You are not obligated in any way to rec for the month. If you're next in line and [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com] replies to your request and you can't rec, then just let her know. She'll grab you that next month. No problemo! The point is, we want volunteers in advance. Just pick the link you want and volunteer... And again don't request a specific month. We'll work with you if you can't take the month that you're called. We really will!!!!

So yeah, this is me ASKING people to SIGN UP NOW for the months to come!!!!!

And I think that's it. Have a great month of rec'cing, everyone! And thanks, in advance, for all your hard work!

hey, for the rec format i noticed that in the sign-up posts for genre:other and character:other the "pairing" is "character" - is that ok, are they interchangeable, or is "pairing" preferred?
