Why This Must Be Read
: Katie gives us ten little gems, each based on a defined word or partial word, which in turn are related to her LJ username. The warnings above are all-encompassing, as each ficlet stands alone and has its own theme or story.

Some of these are painfully intense: Teal'c and Daniel talking together in early S1, or Sam talking to one of the replacements for Daniel at the beginning of S6. Some of these are genuinely sweet: Jack contemplating his team as his legacy, or Teal'c's reflections on Sam and kittens. And some of them are wickedly funny: the team being cheerfully catty about Kinsey, or Teal'c verbally tripping up Jack with an utterly deadpan face.

I will caution, since this is the gen category, that one ficlet includes Sam thinking about the events of Divide and Conquer and reflecting bitterly, in the context of Heroes,  on the innuendo that will inevitably result from her presence on SG-1. I don't think that makes it non-gen, but I'm stating it here, for the record.

Ranging from sweet and sassy to poignant and powerful, Katie covers the gamut with these combinations. It won't take long to read through these, but give yourself time; you'll likely want to read them all over again.

Daniel dropped his hands to his desk and looked down at them, avoiding Jack's eyes. "It's a fascinating historical question..."

"Yeah, uh-huh, very interesting." Jack pursed his lips, spun a little in the chair. "New goa'uld?"

"I have seven pages of a carefully thought-out argument prepared, you know," Daniel said in a voice balancing somewhere between irritation and laughter. "I have footnotes
."

"See, there was your first mistake. I'm right, aren't I? You wouldn't be bringing it up unless there was a point. New country, new gods, new goa'uld."

Daniel looked up at Jack and tilted his head a little to the side, admitting defeat with a quirk of his eyebrows. "You know, I got paid a lot of money to write those footnotes."

"Budgeteers have whims beyond our ken," Jack said solemnly. "Hey, listen, you can tell me--do you ever make rude comments in those things? Because I'll bet you twenty bucks no one reads them."

Wow, these were brilliant! I have to say that the image that sticks with me the most is the thought of Teal'c scritching Sam behind the ears. *chortles* I also loved Ktema, and would say that SG-1 itself is one hell of a legacy (pity that bloody Sci-Fi doesn't see that).

A rec is just as nice as feedback, if not nicer.

Thank you for another excellent rec! I quite enjoyed reading these. I've printed out the two longer pieces you rec'ed, as well, and intend to make those my bedtime reading. :)

And...it took me how long to notice this in my inbox? *sigh* My apologies. LJ has been delivering my comments in an almost random order of late. I don't know when this arrived but I've only just now noticed. Sorry.

You're quite welcome but I admit that I think of it as enlightened self-interest. ;-) You're rec'ing stuff that really appeals to me but that I haven't yet read. Anything that I can do to encourage you to continue is a Good Thing (tm). As someone who tends to spend several hours re-reading stories and then agonizing over a recommendation, I also greatly appreciate someone who can make me want to read a fic without spoiling it. Thank YOU. :)
