[identity profile] angelsgracie.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] stargateficrec
Just wanted to announce the creation of a new volunteer job.

[Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com] has accepted the job of going through all the entries that have been put into memories and checking the links. This comm has been around for several years, and I figured that some of the links in the older recs may not work anymore.

Now, she isn't just going to get rid of the broken entries. She's actually going to try to find a link that works for the story. So if you find you're getting comments to really old entries, she's just trying to track down and get out the correct links.

Also, this is a MASSIVE undertaking, and that's being mild about it. So, in time, I will come to those of you in the comm and will ask for someone to assist her. Right now, she's going to work solo and get down a system that works and then she'll train whoever is brought in to help her.

For now, I would like to welcome [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com] to the fold of full-time volunteer and I want to wish her the best as well as thank her for her help!

What a really cool thing to do.

Will she be making sure that all the posts that made it into the journal also made it into the memories as well? Because a while back I went to memories to locate a fic I had reced some time ago, and I couldn't find it in memories. I fortunately was able to find it by finding another fic I rec'd the same month, and just went through that months archives to locate it.

I didn't say anything at the time, because like you said, doing something like that would take tons of work, and I don't even have time to rec anymore, let alone offer to make sure the fic were all archived properly. So it didn't seem fair to ask you guys to do something I wan't willing to help with.

But since you brought up something similar happening, I thought I'd mention it. If nothing else, maybe when my life becomes a bit more stable, I could help with that. Anyway - just thought I'd ask...

It only seems fair to volunteer since I suggested it, but I'm hooked now that I've started doing it. I've found some excellent stories by delving into the past recs and the extra minutes I spend with each rec means it's more likely to catch my fancy and I'm more likely to go and read.

It's ALL good! :)

YAY! Thank you, [livejournal.com profile] green_grrl! Checking for dead links is an excellent idea; boy, do you have your work cut out for you. 1900+ messages to go through. I was a bit daunted when we first started tagging and I only had 1/3 of the entries to worry about.

Best of luck and don't hesitate to let us know if we can help in any way.
