Wow, I didn't intend my last Daniel fic to be such a sad one, but it's a really good one as well, and surprisingly not rec'ced yet.
Rec Category: Daniel
Pairing: Hints of Daniel/Janet pre-ship, at least from Janet
Category: Daniel; SG-1; Angst/Drama; Hurt/Comfort; Episode Related
Warning: Minor language; Meridian fic (i.e. canon character dying)
Author on LJ: unknown
Author's Website: unknown
Link to Story: Cleanliness Is Next To Godliness
Why this should be read:
I hate the episode "Meridian" with a passion, despite the great performances of all the cast, even with the fact that the first time I saw it was long after Daniel was alive and corporeal again.
This fic makes me almost like the episode. It's one of the "Shower Series", but is a different fic from most of them. Told from Janet's point of view, it's Daniel's decontamination showers upon his return from Kelowna. Daniel's character, and even his sense of humor, remains intact even as his body is beginning to be destroyed.
The juxtaposition of Janet's clinical analysis and pre-mourning of her friend are perfectly done. Daniel meets his death with dignity. The missing scene is just that, ending well before many of the events of the episode take place, but adding a rich layer of poignancy to this stirring episode.
Have tissues ready, but definitely read this story.
