Why this must be read: 

Okay, here's the thing, I hate 1st  person narrative. I don't know why, but if a book or a fic starts with a 1st person narrative there is a 99% chance that I'm going to put it down/hit the back button and never return to it ever again. This fic is the very rare 1st person narrative that I have read and absolutely loved. The voices are spot on and it has perfect characterizations. It looks at different segments of Teyla's life and each part flows seamlessly to the next. Its beautiful.

I'm eighteen, and I am too young to die.

 The specter of death hangs over all of us, all the time. Life is fraught with risk: the animal you hunt may charge, the boat you fish in may capsize, the fire you tend may attain a life of its own, and the child you give birth to may be born too early, or too quickly, or with his body turned wrong-way in your womb.

And the Wraith may come, taking you up into their ships with their dark light, or paralyzing you with their weapons and dragging you away to feed.

The Wraith have come, again.
