Why This Must Be Read:
This story made me say "wow" out loud when I read it, and very few stories do that. And rereading it just now for this rec, I stil had the same reaction.
Mktoronto is relatively new to the fandom; this was only her second fic. The writing style and dramatization are crisp and poignant. It stays in canon, but enriches what was on screen in a way that only the best episode related scenes achieve.
This story is the scene in "Double Jeopardy" when robot-Daniel meets his fate. The self-dialogue is so Daniel and yet, a unique and separate person as well. Because of the nature of "this" SG-1's communication, we get hints of this Sam, Teal'c, and Jack's thoughts and emotions as well.
And now here I am, bound and powerless, taking the place of the man. I am roughly thrown to the ground.
Sounds like Earth has a treaty that protects them. I am relieved to hear it. They continue to be safe. Cronus is now threatening Teal'c. Won't he be surprised when the truth comes out.
"You will all pay for your sins."
Not mine. The man. But it is a debt I am willing to pay.
The thought of an end to the eternity dance brings surprising relief.
I no longer fear death. It has no hold on me.
Also, a disclaimer. I was beta to this fic, but I didn't do much. The heart and soul of this wonderful piece was already there.
