Pairing: Sheppard/Weir (some vague mentions of Zelenka/McKay)
Category: Alternate reality,

Author's Summery: If the whole part with the guns, the concussion and the felony kidnapping hadn't happened, really, this would be like a vacation. (Written for the Harlequin Challenge)
Why This Must Be Read: Miera_c has created a fascinating alternate universe that is almost a mix between two of the most popular Stargate AU communities here on LJ,
langford_u and
spygate, but it still exists within it's own little bubble. The characters are all in new roles, but the voices are still the same. The writing is flawless, and the action/adventure and romance that weaves through the story makes it quite addicting to read. I've read this one perhaps four times by now. It's just that good.
Run, don't walk, to read this one.
That was when Sheppard appeared, standing over her, hands in his pockets and his eyes hidden behind a pair of sunglasses. They just stared at each other for a moment in silence, as Elizabeth realized that she was lying there before him in nothing but a bathing suit.
She stood up abruptly.
"You don't have to..." he started as she pulled on her bathrobe. "I just wanted to see if you're okay, if you need anything."
"Other than answers?" she snapped to cover her embarrassment, folding her arms across her chest.
His face hardened. "I thought we talked about this."
"No, you talked about this. You pointed a gun at me, took me up into a plane in the middle of a storm, and you're the one who decided I have no right to know why I'm being held prisoner."
"Pretty cushy prison," he shot back and then folded his lips together like he wished he could call the words back.
She shrugged. "It's called making the best of the situation."
"Look," he started, taking his sunglasses off. She felt much better being able to see his eyes. "I've told you I'm sorry about all of this, and believe me, I meant it. I know if our positions were reversed? I'd be going insane at this point, wanting to know what's going on." She got the feeling he actually wanted to tell her what was going on, but was holding back. Probably because of his chivalristic notions about protecting her, she thought a little bitterly.
"But your empathy isn't enough of a reason?" she raised an eyebrow.
"I'm trying to do the best thing to keep you safe," he said, and now his voice was almost pleading with her. "I need you to believe that."
