Why This Must Be Read:
This fic begins on a very intense, sometimes shattering, ride through Jack O'Neill's life with an unthinkable tragedy. The author follows him through situation after situation where his emotions range from horrified to overjoyed, and she handles each with realism as Jack tries to deal with the confusion life seems to be handing him. The gift of the title certainly seems, at first, something Jack might very well want to return. But he's able to make good come of it. There are parts of the ending that I wasn't completely happy with, but this is a fic that I find myself thinking about, and frequently wanting to re-read.
