Why This Must Be Read: Okay, this is my first rec, so away we go, and hope I'm doing this right.

Travelling One is one of my favorite Stargate gen authors. This fic is one of her more recent tales: a sequel to "Brief Candle". SG-1 returns to the planet to check on the Argosians. They've returned to find there are more villages, some industries and crafts now that there's not just "one hundred days of life to celebrate", and that SG-1 are considered super-heroes by the liberated Argosians...which is augmented by Daniel's namesake selling comic books of their adventures.

Just about everyone is pleased at SG-1's return. One of the few exceptions is Kynthia's new husband, Myrto, who is very displeased that his wife's mythical hero and his companions are now present in the flesh.

There's some nice moments of all of the team, especially as they read their comic book adventures. And as with most of Travelling One's fics, there are oodles of Jack and Daniel friendship and interaction. Action/adventure and suspense build in a way throughout the fic that makes a reader try and "catch his/her breath." The Argosians are fleshed out characters, though still retaining much of their childlike innocence remembered from the episode. Even the "villain" is not a stock character, but has understandable motives for the actions taken. The action descriptions help the reader picture the full scenes without getting bogged down in the scenery.

"Jack likes to think. And he likes to wander by the water. Perhaps he was curious about the villages. You will see; he will soon return from a long walk."

But Kynthia didn't know about teamwork, and missions. "He wouldn't leave in the middle of his watch. And not without telling us."

"He will be unharmed, Daniel. He is a -"

"Superhero." Myrto sidled up to them.

"Superhero," Daniel muttered under his breath, looking back out to sea.

"I have heard of sea monsters. My people speak of them. If your friend ventured too close to the water at night……"

Jack had been on watch, wandering on the beach. "Sea monsters?" Daniel frowned, swivelling abruptly, his pulse accelerating. "Tell me about them."

"They are said to be large," Myrto continued, on a roll. "They devour those who venture into the sea after dark. That is the reason my people don't go into the water." No, most thought the water was only for bathing. The rise and fall to them was frightening, a phenomenon still associated with the old warnings of Pelops.

Daniel's head was racing with thoughts of sharks, or crocodiles, or alien sharp-toothed amphibians or reptiles. It was possible…… and would explain a lot. Way, way too much. He felt his blood chill on its way through his limbs.

Damn it, no damn way. Closer to the water he strode, until his boots were edging the waves. Where the hell are you, Jack?

I'm really surprised at the lack of 'Brief Candle' post-ep stories, thanks for the link!
