Why This Must Be Read: A Stargate snafu lands Jack and Daniel on an Abydos in an alternate universe where both Jack and Daniel remained behind after they defeated Ra. Both men are married and raising families. It’s angsty to read about the happy family lives each man could have had on Abydos, most especially when it comes to Daniel. Forever in a Day stands out in presenting a loving, intimate relationship between two people deeply in love, thus Daniel’s trauma at seeing Shau’ri alive and pregnant is particularly painful to read. Daniel reveals the overwhelming guilt he carries, the certainty that he was responsible for Shau’ri’s fate. The visit provides closure for Daniel, though, and makes it clear that Daniel Jackson is living a life of great meaning. When Jack and Daniel leave the alternate Abydos, the reader feels hopeful.

Author’s Summary: Jack and Daniel take a wrong turn out of the Stargate and wind up on an alternate Abydos, but things aren't as similar, or as simple as one might think.
