Why This Must Be Read: A light-hearted romp of body switching and gender warping. A set of Ancient ruins could hold the key to defeating Anubis. Only drawback is that it’s on a matriarchal planet that allows only women access to the holy city -- and the SGC’s recruiting efforts haven’t scored any female linguists fluent in Ancient. Sam and Daniel agree to switch bodies using Ma’chello’s machine. SG-1 travels to the planet with Daniel-in-Sam as the leader and the remaining three as her, er...his, male slaves.

The author describes this as Gen, though I’m not certain I completely agree. To me, Gen has no sexual or romantic content but this fic defies neat pigeon-holing into het or slash. For instance, what is it if Sam-in-Daniel’s-body gets an erection from looking at gorgeous, naked men? How about if Jack notices Daniel’s ass because it’s swishing now that Sam’s moving it? There aren’t any pairings and there isn’t a relationship at the core of this story, but there’s plenty of joking around and, well, can you imagine Jack would let his Freaky Friday Scientists off the hook without ribald commentary? Yeah, me neither.

Each member of SG-1 has a role in the story and all four are working towards a common goal. Teal’c gets a juicy part and the author uses his character to good effect. For all the sexually fraught situations and joking, the tone is always one of a team of adults who like each other; the friendship permeates the story. It’s a feel-good story.

Author's Summary: It's another body swap fic, people, but this time it's done on purpose. Only females are allowed into the city, there are no female archaeologists on the staff. SG1 finds a way around it. How does Daniel cope with controlling his breasts and how does Sam deal with her wayward penis? When will Jack finally stop laughing? And what's with the Snickers bar? I read this a while and thought it was a hoot. I agree that it's very hard to fit into a category but I think it goes to demonstrate how not everything can neatly fit into categories and shouldn't.

A beat way of looking at a different side to SG-1 while still staying true to the characters and the show, imo. Thanks for the recc. Brought back some good memories :)

Glad to have found a story that we agree upon! :) I would love for the onscreen attractions to be like this - ambiguous, light, and completely open to interpretation based on how you want to squint at it.

Best yet, this story made me enjoy the more recent Jack, who I thought seemed more about the joke than the job. This Jack never stopped cracking jokes but I still loved him.
