Author Summary: Teyla didn’t often lose her head. As a leader of her people, and an Ambassador for Atlantis, it was required of her to be calm, diplomatic and rational.
But, well. Everyone has their moments.
Why this must be read: It's a fun short story. WonkyElk always write in a whimsical, fun style. I especially like her Teyla in this and how she makes an impulsive decision to pretend she is dating Rodney to appease an Aunt-like character. I love how Rodney just decides to go along with it, with actually no context. John's jealous. It's a fun feelings admission story with a lot of chaos and silliness.
Rodney appeared to grasp something of the look Teyla was shooting him - don’t question, just nod - and smiled awkwardly at Ravia.
“Nice to meet you.”
The words had just slightly too much of a question in them to be strictly polite, but Ravia didn’t seem to notice. She just yanked him forward and inspected him closely, all but checking his teeth, while Rodney wriggled but didn’t actually pull away. He shot Teyla a desperate baffled look, but she merely smiled blandly at him, hoping that Ravia would let go before Rodney’s limited patience ran out.
“Strong arms. Bold nose. Is he a talker? Got the jaw of a talker. You ought to pick ‘em quiet.”
“I believe there to be merits in both.”
Teyla took Rodney’s arm and pulled him out of Ravia’s clutches, finding a little of her scattered courage in the instinctive need to protect her teammates, whether from Wraith, or arrows, or terrifying figures from her childhood.
“I intend to show Rodney around now. I trust you will have a chance to become further acquainted later.”
Amazingly, Ravia let them go, with no more than a frown and a regal nod. They slipped off through the village centre, Teyla loudly pointing out a few places she recalled from her youth, in slightly too bright a voice, while Rodney let himself be towed, thankfully not asking questions - which must be just killing him - but occasionally rubbing at his nose, with the air of a man who was trying to determine what was so bold about it.
As soon as they were out of earshot, Teyla would have a whole lot of explaining to do.
