Author's Summary:
Jack's not in a great mood before going back into Sheppard's hearing at the SGC after the siege of Atlantis. But then something happens.
Why This Must Be Read:
A fun ficlet that mific wrote for me for the 2025 SGA Secret Santa exchange. It's just fun and she has a wonderful Jack-voice that comes through well.
Jack unlocked his office door at the SGC, sighing at the thought of the afternoon debriefing stretching ahead of him after several hours of the same all morning. Lunch at the commissary had been subpar, partly as he'd had to sit with the stuffed shirts from the IOC which always ruined his appetite, and partly as they'd been late breaking for lunch and all the good desserts had gone. He wasn't a big jello man.
The debriefing would reconvene in half an hour and it'd be at least four hours until they could reasonably call it quits and wrap it all up with Sheppard. Poor bastard, the IOC were determined to make him justify every last bullet fired and grenade exploded. The people killed or missing in action on Sheppard's watch were fair game in Jack's view; those needed to be discussed. But the nitpicking about inventory was a total waste of time. Christ, and they hadn't even tackled the shit show of Sumner's death yet.
He flicked on the lights and stopped, surprised to see a paper sack on his desk. It hadn't been there when he'd dropped by first thing that morning.
He took a step towards it, then paused. He wasn't the most paranoid guy around, but you didn't make general without developing a degree of well-earned caution, and the Trust had been especially pesky lately. Who could have left the bag?
