Author’s summary: "Where did all these flowers come from?" Rodney asks. They're everywhere. On tables. On desks. Large, blousy flowers, small pointed flowers, round edged flowers. Bunches of them in plain, clear vases, or in tall planters that have suddenly appeared in corners and crannies. They're even in the transporters, little bouquets affixed to the wall.
Or - Atlantis has a plan. A romance plan.
Why This Must Be Read: This lovely story by Anagrrl revolves around a sentient Atlantis that is trying to figure out what it takes to bring people together and, ultimately, increase its population. It’s endearing, heartwarming, and utterly delightful to read about all the different plans for getting under people’s skin and into their heads—or rather, their hearts. And it’s surprising, or perhaps not surprising at all, that Rodney, normally considered insensitive to subtleties, is the one who senses that Atlantis is seeking contact and wants to take care of it :)
The first time Rodney finds himself stuck in a shaking transporter and falling into someone's arms, he doesn't really think about it. "Apologies, Major," he says to Major Lorne, after he pulls himself away and straightens his clothes. He certainly doesn't think about the few moments when Lorne's hands had been on his ass, or when the transporter had shaken – again – causing Rodney to fall back against the wall, Lorne's body pressed hard against his.
"Uh. No problem," Lorne tells him, rubbing his hand across his mouth, which Rodney had accidently hit with his own lips.
Rodney absolutely does not look at that hand, and instead focusses on the transporter's control crystals.
"Are we stuck in here?"
"I can't see anything wrong," he replies, and then studiously ignores it when Lorne leans in, probably closer than necessary, to peer at the control panel.
Thirty minutes later – after frustrating calls to Zelenka, and a lack of any clear reason for the malfunction – the transporter restarts, delivering Rodney and Lorne to their destination.
"It's been a slice, McKay," Lorne says, as he walks away, perhaps a tad more quickly than strictly warranted.
