Grace never seemed like enough to make Sam question Jack, let alone give up on him. I needed her to have another nudge. This happens between Grace and Chimera.
Why This Must Be Read:
A look at Jack and Sam's relationship immediately after the episode Grace. Sam starts out hopeful but Jack is placed in an awkward position by the locals. This is an interesting twist on 'the aliens made them do it' when they essentially force Jack to deny his feelings publicly. Sam doesn't take that denial well.
“All set up Carter?” Jack looked at the impressive array of equipment Sam and her team of astronomers had managed to set up over the last two hours. He felt proud watching her lead this little group of geeks. Her self-confidence had grown by leaps and bounds since she joined SG-1 and Jack knew it was time to find her a team to lead, even if that meant seeing her less and not getting to watch her back.
“We should be able to get plenty of footage and data from here, Sir.” Sam was fiddling with one of the telescopes as she spoke. Jack peered over her shoulder, trying to get a look through the lens. She looked over at him with an amused and exasperated grin. “We still have a couple hours before the show begins.”
“That we do.” Jack straightened. “We also have a diplomatic shindig to attend.”
Sam’s face fell. “I was hoping I could stay and monitor the…”
Jack was shaking his head. “You need to be seen at the big party. We’d hate to cause offense.” He felt bad for her since he knew how much she wanted to monitor the evening’s show through her toys. “Maybe you’ll have a chance to sneak away without being noticed.”
Her face brightened just a touch.
