Why This Must Be Read: This might be the SGU fic for SGA fans who don't like SGU or who don't know that canon! If you don't mind John giving in to his subby side, and lots of Wraith worldbuilding. It's a crossover with a few big canon divergences, resulting in a mixed bag of characters from all three shows ending up in a fusion setting of the SGU story, on the very Ancient ship Destiny. Added to that is the most successful fix-it to avoid genocide of the Wraith that I've ever read, focussed on Todd, Teyla and John, then extending to nearly everyone else. And finally, a murder mystery! It's novel length and then some, with wonderful characterisation and plot, and amazing worldbuilding. One of those stories where you feel bereft when it's done (but yay, there is a briefer coda in the series, and a sequel by Rosiepaw). It's a classic - I re-read it regularly. If the tags and warnings deter you, I can reassure you that auburn carries the reader through to a very satisfying and almost transcendent Found Family ending.
Human error, operant conditioning, survival instinct and evolution as horror. An examination of the SGC's failure to anticipate and prevent the losses of Atlantis and the Alterran survey ship Destiny. One year after the first, the second Earth Expedition to Wraith-occupied Atlantis is diverted to an Ancient ship and struggles to survive with no way home and enemies within, while John Sheppard, considered a traitor by everyone who once knew him, tries to hold onto what humanity he has left and save them all.
