Why This Must Be Read: Author's Summary: "Daniel might not survive when armed militants take over the negotiations. What will the rest of SG1 sacrifice to save him?"

This is another one of those stories from days of old which I've read and reread many times, over the years. While doing his diplomat-thing offworld, Daniel is gravely wounded during an attack by interlopers. But that's just the fic's initial set-up; it's all that comes afterward which keeps drawing me back to reread this story: Daniel's resilience and strength of will, Jack's determined dedication to his team, Sam's caring, and the strong Team-As-Family undercurrent throughout.

Jack with his P90 slung over his shoulder and Teal’c with his staff weapon lowered hung back in the crowd. Carter stood a bit apart from them as per his orders. He wanted a clear line of sight on Daniel at all times.

Just in case.

He glanced to Carter and gave her a slight nod. In turn, she smiled back but it was a tight clipped expression. She slipped along the side of the room, mirroring Daniel’s movements as she telegraphed her observations to him from across the room. Her eyes confirmed the all clear and they continued to stand guard over the perfunctory pre-meeting reception. Every few minutes, Jack switched his focus to Carter to get her silent report on the movements in the room. Every few minutes, Carter verified there was nothing to worry about but she remained vigilant. Just in case.

Just in case.

It was then, as his shoulders relaxed, as the grip he kept on his weapon opened a degree, as he balanced back on the balls of his feet, that it happened.

You are so very welcome. I love seeing stargate fics still being shared, so, thank you for all you are doing here! I just wish there were more people wanting to rec SG-1 fic though.

Question for you: July is going to be a bit of a busy month here. I'd still like to rec, though, but am wondering if it'd be okay to do so under a brand new, never-before-used category that would be somewhat more wide-open than the usual ones (allowing me to find suitable stories more quickly)? I was thinking of a new category such as 'offworld location' stories? Would something that open be acceptable?
