Why This Must Be Read: This is a lovely accidental confession fic in which John accompanies Rodney to earth for a minor surgical procedure. There's a trip to the Miller's and PT and a whole lot of love.
The imaging results were abysmal.
“I’ve never done worse on a test in my life and I flunked Poetry 150 with Dr. Carver.” Rodney groaned as he held his face in his hands.
Dr. Gonzalez was studying the MRI image again. “Yes I believe that this is grounds for surgery.”
They’d been going in circles for the last half hour. Somehow Rodney had managed to cram every stage of grief into the conversation. Doubling back he’d returned to bargaining. “Just run the tests again. Has the machine even ever been calibrated? How am I supposed to trust the findings of some backwaters portable machine?”
Silently John stared at the image, willing it to change if possible. Earlier as he’d helped Rodney onto the examination table he’d gotten his first good look at the knee. It was stiff and swollen to twice its normal size with a wicked bruise along the outside of it. It was the kind of non-lealth injury that might never heal correctly. It was a sickening thought.
“You can have the test completed again at the SGC if you would like but I am scheduling you for surgery based on these results.” Dr. Gonzalez had a finality in her voice. “And I expect you to abide by the surgeon’s orders. No physical work for six weeks after surgery. Minimum six weeks.”
Sighing Rodney put his face back in his hands, John reached out to pat his shoulder. Rodney made a defeated noise, “Fine. Fine. Fine. Let’s get this over with.”
