Why This Must Be Read: Jack chooses to push on ahead with an off-world treaty despite Daniel's opposition, with potentially tragic results. The author reveals the stories of the off-world event itself and its unfortunate results simultaneously, via an artful combination of present time and flashback scenes that perfectly compliment one another. A thread of team friendship - especially that of Jack and Daniel - is woven throughout. Sunrise often writes an independent, smart, assertive and sometimes prickly Daniel Jackson, and if that works for you, I highly recommend her other stories.
Daniel Jackson stopped poking at the lock and slapped a palm against the wood. "Are you going to help me get this open or not?"
O'Neill stared at him for a long moment, then pulled a small case from his backpack. Selecting a thin metal pick, he shouldered Daniel out of the way and slipped it into the lock. Moments later, he opened the doors with a flourish.
Daniel Jackson dropped his chin to his chest. "Thank you."
O'Neill clenched his jaw. "I still think you're nuts. This was just easier than arguing."
