Why This Must Be Read: This was one of the first stories I read in fandom, and one of those that has stayed with me the longest. Not only because this story is really long with an equally long sequel (At the end of dreams, don't miss) but because the plot is really good. You never know where the author will take you next, and I really get the impression she researches what she writes.
The story is set after Fire and Water, taking the idea of Daniel not being exactly OK after his encounter with Nem and runs with it. Leaning heavily on Earth mythology, it takes us far into the characters' pasts (not only Daniel) and tells us a story that few other fics in fandom rivals in intricacy. Warmly recommended.
