Why This Must Be Read: This story follows the events of the episode Beast of Burden and a little beyond from Jack's point of view. I should confess that Beast of Burden is one of my favorite episodes and one I consider to be one of the best episodes of the series--especially from season 5. I really enjoyed imagining (along with the author) what Jack might have been thinking through everything that was going on in that episode.
A little meta from the story which I found amusing: "If there is a God, the Capital G type that comes minus the snake, I really want to ask Him about where He gets His ideas for some of these places. They all look like stock footage, or leftover film sets, or some part of rural Canada. Either there is no budget Up There, or a severe lack of creativity. I'm going for no budget. It would explain a lot more."
