Why This Must Be Read: This is a lovely coda to the movie, as Jack breaks all security regs to tell Catherine what happened on the mission to Abydos and return her necklace as per Daniel's canon request: "Tell Catherine it brought me luck." It's easy to see this leading directly into Catherine and Jack's interactions in Torment of Tantalus, too.
“But if you’ve retired, then how is it you’re here? Shouldn’t the military have sent someone else?”
Jack nodded. “Yes, ma’am, except they don’t know I’m here.”
Her eyebrows rose and she looked at him inquisitively.
“They don’t know what I’m about to tell you,” he said. “And hopefully they never will.”
“You’ve got my interest,” she said.
He took a deep breath and dropped his bomb. “Daniel Jackson’s not dead.”
