Why This Must Be Read: This is a post-apocalyptic fic with a werewolf twist. I'm generally not fussed about wolf type fics, but this one is so poignant and so deep feeling that it's one of my desert-island fics. Rodney's travelling alone after a great plague wipes almost everyone out, and comes across a wolf in a spot of trouble. He assists the wolf and gains a travelling companion, and eventually a lover. The POV switches between Rodney and John, starting with John's past and eventually bringing him to the present. They both have to face what it means that John's part wolf, and the concept of 'pack' is enormously important. It's remarkably feel-good despite the setting.


The wolf watched the man wander back down the same strip of road he’d examined all morning. This was the third day in a row that the man had come here. He started at the road and then headed off in what appeared to be an arbitrary direction. He crisscrossed the plain a days walk in each direction looking for something. Every day. All day.

Every now and then the man would stop and call out for the wolf but he didn’t respond. Things had changed and there was no going back. One couldn’t unlearn a truth. Perhaps hide it for a while but even then once it was revealed it could never be hidden again in the same way.

I absolutely ADORE this series ♥ I wish the author had finished it, but I feel like it ends in a satisfying enough place~

There are enough unknowns left for at least one other part, but it left off in a way that's satisfying, for sure. :)
