Why This Must Be Read: A last couple of recs to slip in before the end of May. The drama is quieter in this fic which is about a benign version of "The Long Goodbye" where two Ancients temporarily occupy John and Rodney - but lovers, not fighters. The unusual title refers to a philosopher who theorized about the mind. Anyway, the story's about love and loss and forward planning, and it's touching and ultimately hopeful for John and Rodney. A lovely read. As it's an older fic italics are shown by asterisks, and some names precede the spelling that later became canon.
John sighed. "Ford, you and Teyla walk the site perimeter, watch for unfriendlies, natives who have sacred shrine issues and anything that might think we're good for dinner, all right? I'll baby-sit McKay."
"Yes, sir." Ford's eyes said a whole lot of things besides that though, one of them being "will help you hide the body."
He was a good kid that way.
Teyla's glance was more along the lines of "behave yourself" and he supposed that meant he had to be good, too.
So he went over and decided to help speed things along.
"Anything I can touch?" he said, resting his butt on the edge on what was probably a console of some sort.
Rodney's hands faltered, and he dropped his data pad from between his teeth. "Pardon me?"
"Anything I can touch to help get things going here?" John asked. Rodney blinked at him twice before his brain seemed to re-engage.
