Why This Must Be Read: The Retrograde series is a long, meaty, action/adventure tale of a lost colony found, and the hard road back to Earth and trust for the people of Atlantis. This sounds and feels like an episode, but better, with fantastic world-building in an Atlantis that might have been.




"Like what we've done with the place?" John had to ask.

O'Neill shrugged. "I was just relieved there hadn't been any cannibalism."

John remembered when he had thought O'Neill's uniquely batshit way of interacting with the world was kind of cool. Not so much, at the moment. "We talked about cannibalism, but we thought we'd better use up the MREs first, or it would look bad."

This series is so good :D
I wouldn't say it feels like an episode, it's too big and complicated (in only good ways) for that, but it's one of my favorite Stargate fics.

You're right, it is too big and complicated for an episode, but the characterization is spot on, the action and pacing feels much like a well written two-parter or TV movie (except longer), and it's believable in all the small details and larger, more horrible plot points. This series and Hunting Parties are two of my all time favorite SGA fics. I wouldn't want to live in either of these stories but they're amazing worlds to visit. :D

Me too! Never know when you'll be sitting in a waiting room, yearning for some batshit crazy Jack O'Neill and pithy John Sheppard. Ltlj writes them so well, along with the rest of the characters. :D
