Why This Must Be Read:

This is a totally non-explicit Jack Loves Daniel fic, suitable for all audiences. I am still totally in love with this fic.

In rereading it to make this rec, I was struck by the importance of the narrative voice. Merry writes a very understated and humorous Jack, and this is her Jack in a very mellow mood. Her take on Jack's voice is what makes this story work. If you love Jack as a character and believe that Jack/Daniel is in any way plausible, you will enjoy this story.

It's an offworld mission involving a hilarious alien, rain, the Tollans (yay), all told from a gorgeous Jack POV, and the spine of the story is Jack getting to hang with Daniel. That's it. But it's so gorgeously told -- like Merry is lovingly sifting through her treasure box of SG-1 goodness and telling the old, old story again, once again, just for us. This story will cheer you up if you are down.

She was one of the marvelous eary writers -- she did the ficathon when it was still under the direction of greensilver, the founder.

I've always wanted to read some Jack/Daniel fic, but have never known where to begin. SG1 is an odd show in that I don't have a hardcore ship, so I don't tend to read in it.
