Why This Must Be Read: This is a lovely if somewhat heartbreaking fic where Rodney contracts 'logopetria' which forces him to speak in objects. John, who is naturally a man of few words, tries to help Rodney, who is essentially forced to become a man of few words, deal with this and isn't wildly successful but it ends on a note of hope.

Extra: Equally lovely John/Rodney sequel. Eloquence by Taste_is_Sweet. This posting of it on AO3 has an extra missing scene as chapter 2 that I'd never read before.

When John got the call, he thought it was a joke. An elaborate prank which, granted, wasn't really Rodney's style, especially not with medical conditions, but there was a first time for everything, right? He held on to that hope all the way down to the infirmary, took refuge in it even as he listened to Keller's nervous attempts at explaining the curiously shaped… things… on the side table. Took Rodney's silence and Ronon's bemusement and Carter's confusion and Teyla's worry and refused to acknowledge them, his mind stuck in a constant replay of, joke, a joke, it's all a joke. Watched Rodney's face grow red and redder until finally the man just snapped and opened his mouth to spit out his frustration and anger.

I can't remember if I've ever read Taste's sequel to Lavvyan's fic, so thank you for rec'ing these - I love [livejournal.com profile] lavvyan's work, and Taste is always fantastic.

Thanks for the rec. I recced the same fics last year(?) in a different category, but I didn't know about the added missing scene. I was very pleased to read it since this is one of my all-time favorite fics.
