Why This Must Be Read: This is a quick and fascinating read that looks at the idea of John as a wizard. Those that have read/seen Harry Potter will recognize the magic terminology and the reason flocks of owls were clogging up the intakes of John's father's planes on his 11th birthday but it's somewhat peripheral since John in this universe didn't get a traditional magical education. Bonus: great explanation for John's hair.

John knows he's not much of a wizard. Hell, he doesn't even own a wand; his mother taught him how to use a pocketknife as an athame if he needed to cast spells, but she refused to buy something so obviously magical.
